Description
Publisher's Description of MathWise Fractions Book 2 with Answer Key

MathWise Fractions 2 builds on the previous volume, emphasizing all four operations with fractions, as well as fraction ordering. The book offers three different ways to order fractions, although the simplest one is the "Bottom-Up Cross Multiplication" method - presented last.

Number sense with fractions is at the forefront of the book. As introduced in the first volume, students should continue to view denominators as divisors. This makes it more logical for students to understand how fraction-decimal conversion is related to division, and why fraction cancelation makes sense. The book offers many ways for students to have a deeper-level understanding of how and why fractions behave the way they do.

The answer frames and the layout of the books are designed not only to appeal to students, but to make the work more organized and more visual.

When students have a solid grasp of fractions, future math concepts will be simpler and more understandable in later grades. Students in middle school or high school can also benefit from a review of fractions that deepens their awareness and stretches their understanding.

Sometimes a little more practice is all that is needed to hone specific math skills. This series offers just that: topical practice, review, and extra practice. Peter Wise is a math teacher and author of this series that takes a fresh approach to helping students understand. The basics are intended for any grade level that might include them and are explained in a comic-style format. The books vary in length and are divided into one and two-page topical practices. Special features include tips and tricks (memory aids), speech bubbles with teaching insights, step-by-step procedures, simplified terminology to introduce concepts, and occasional concept quizzes. Each book goes from simple to more complex explanations and challenge problems are included to stretch students. Every topic includes explanations, samples, practice, and answer keys (not solutions) are found at the back of the book. There is plenty of room for students to work right in the book, and these are reproducible for a single classroom or family. This series is affordable, practical, and a great option for students struggling with specific concepts, needing more practice, or getting a jumpstart on new concepts. ~ Donna
