Description

The hill was host to a myriad of animals—rabbits, skunks, moles, groundhogs, deer, and several other small animals in the countryside. After the “good Folks" left the little ranch house, nothing had been the same. A new owner had come and gone, but they were not good people. It had been years since they had plentiful and easily accessible food. With little to eat, mother rabbit worries for the health and life of her family as rations are so scarce. When the animals hear rumors of new folks moving in, they become ecstatic and hopeful, but aren't yet convinced of future prosperity. What if it's another mean family? They dream of having a luscious lawn and garden once again. They long for the treats and feed that was once provided for them through winter. Only time will tell how bountiful the rest of their lives will be. This exciting winner of the Newbery Medal is a little tale of animal life and their story of survival. 128 pgs, pb.

It has been a while since Folks lived in the Big House, and an even longer time has passed since there has been a garden at the House. All the animals of the Hill are very excited about the new Folks moving in, and they wonder how things are going to change. It's only a matter of time before the animals of the Hill find out just who is moving in, and they may be a little bit surprised when they do.
