This is required curriculum, but I would choose it anyway. SOTW is well written and engages the children. I would have enjoyed learning history in school if it were written this way! The activity book has great projects to supplement the lessons.
Emily H on Jun 8, 2017
My children enjoy the Story of the World series. The Activity book is a must for us as we enjoy Unit Studies. This activity book recommends rich literature, additional historical reading, all while learning geography and doing fun activities.

My children and I have read volumes 1 and 2 and we love them. I especially love that my children are learning history in order of how it happened.
Maria H on Apr 28, 2017
We don't always use the activities, but my kids love the coloring pages and I find the book recommendations priceless. I could do my own leg work to get coloring pages and find library books, but for the price it is worth it for me to spend energy on other things.
Margaret T on Apr 13, 2017
History made interesting. Used Vol. 1 & 2.

We have used volumes 1 & 2, so I am picking up 3 in order to start planning for next year.

Nicole W on Aug 2, 2016
I have just been reading the stories aloud, but I think the kids are now at an age where they can start to do the activities and review questions without heartache.
Genevieve M on Jul 11, 2016
I like the SOTW activity books because they include not only review questions and activities (for younger kids), but they also include some suggested literature that corresponds w/ the period in history being studied - all of which can be used as a jumping off point for those who want to use this as a spine on which parents can build for older kids.
Jenni L on Jul 5, 2016
Teaching this period to students in a K-4 classroom.

Teaching in a classical, university model school and love this series!
Denise S on Dec 31, 2015
The best program for engaging multiple aged children in history. Detailed enough to have a grasp of the events yet concise enough for lessons to remain short to foster a habit of attention.
Carrie M on Nov 16, 2015
Using it for our homeschool, where we use the Classical Method of teaching.
Jennifer B on Nov 14, 2015

What reading level are these activities on?
A shopper on Oct 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My son is 10, but reads at a higher level. I think this is a fabulous book...he seems really engaged. Hope this helps! We purchased the Rainbow Curriculum Set for both my 10 and 7 year olds and we are LOVING it!!! We will do this from now on, as opposed to buying super expensive curriculum. Definitely worth the money!
can this be used for 7th grade?
A shopper on Feb 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I probably wouldn't use it for that grade. While, in my opinion, a lot of the activities and extra curricular source investigation in the first half of the book could be beneficial, in the second half (student pages) it's full of simplistic map and coloring pages, which I think a 12 year old might feel silly doing.
Can you please verify that this text does NOT contain religious content?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: While the author will not leave out any historical text that might pertain to Christianity, she does not seem to have a bias. It seems more informative, because she references any religion that was practiced during the time in history that it being studied and how it shaped history.
