We took a year off from Spelling Workout and tried a few other programs that I kept hearing recommended We are back to it this year! My daughters love doing the lessons and I love that it is based on phonics rules I think it is perfect for a child who learned to read without a lot of phonics instruction I really like that it incorporates other skills like editing also My daughters have two very different learning styles yet it works with both of them I don't use the Teacher's Manual and I find it very simple to use; we just open the book and do the lesson

I regret to say I was very disappointed with this program I don't know if it's because I didn't get the teacher's manual but I didn't see any basic spelling tests in it but it did have tests like "find the misspelled word" I'm more traditional when it comes to spelling and found this to be more of a supplemental program instead of a learning how to spell the words on the word list I bought this program because my kids are doing great with MCP's phonics and math which are excellent and goes at their pace

I appreciate the price, and while we wish the book had color, it will be a better investment than some of the especially pricey spelling methods. We used the first book (A), tried another method, and are now back to the B.

4th homeschooled child will be using Spelling Workout in 2nd grade like the others before her.

I chose this program because I needed to rewind my boys in their spelling. They both struggle and nothing else has helped. This seems like a fun and laid back approach to learning to spell based off of the basic phonics rules.

I have been using these books for my children for almost 5 years now and they are great!! I like the exercises provided for the spelling words and the interesting reading selections at the start of each chapter.

We have used Spelling Workout for five years and it's the only spelling program we have needed. It's a great price, easy to use, low prep, and it's effective. My kids like the worksheet approach, and I like the ease of use and good value.

To supplement our All About Spelling program. I have a struggling speller and feel like a little additional work would be beneficial.

I have used this program in the past with two other children and I was very pleased. It offers an introduction and refresher to various concepts such as homophones, synonyms, and contractions.

Excellent and easy to use and age appropriate. Of all the spelling programs my children have all chosen to use Spelling Workout. Within a few minutes each day my children have become great spellers through these books.

Does this program have a placement test?
A shopper on May 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: To my knowledge, no. I feel that the books are very grade/age-appropriate. If you aren't sure from which spelling level your child would benefit, then I would choose the spelling book that correlates with your child's reading level, so as not to frustrate or bore him/her. However, please note that as the levels increase, so do the number of words. For example, there are 6 words in a list in level A, 10-15 in B, 20 in C and up. Hope this helps!
