Description

Quacks the Donkey and his friends the sheep, pig and cow are ready to compete in a big race to win the grand prize!  Each player rides one of the animals and must feed them fruits and vegetables to keep them moving down the road.  The first player that arrives in the town of Quedlinburg riding their animal is awarded the Golden Cauldron and wins the game!

Setup:  Each player chooses an animal for the race and receives a personal player board to store tokens and rubies they collect along with a cloth bag.  Everyone starts with 4 food tokens and 4 dream weed tokens.  Remaining food tokens and ruby gem pieces are sorted in the game box to be used as a supply.  There are two sides to the main board, one with a shorter road to town for a beginner game.  Each animal starts at the little house and gets ready to race to town.

Game Play:  Players take turns drawing a token from their bag.

Food Tokens: Each token has a number value and is of one of the different colors/food types.  The player moves the number of spaces indicated by the number on the token.  For each food type, there is a corresponding action card, which gives the player a specific benefit.  For example, red tokens allow them to collect rubies, yellow tokens reward players with a roll of a die that give benefits such as extra tokens, movement on the road or rubies.

Dream Weed Tokens: There are three spaces on player boards to place these tokens.  When the first two tokens are drawn, players do not move or receive benefits.  When the third token is drawn, they use the rubies they have obtained to purchase additional food tokens from the main supply and place these new tokens along with the ones on their board back into their bag.  Play continues until one of the animals reaches town and is declared the winner.

This is a nice beginning level game with elements of bag building and racing for 2-4 players. It only takes about 25 minutes to play.  There are four game variations to add interest and challenge once everyone is familiar with the basic game.  Quacks & Co. is also a great introduction to the more challenging Quacks of Quedlinburg Game for Grades 6 to adult.
