Through the Bible With My Child
Additional Details
Product Description
As Christian families, our greatest desire is to be actively involved in teaching our children the Bible, but often times we just don't know where or how to begin. Beginning with the premise that God entrusted parents to teach the Bible to their children and that the Bible was written for all of us, Through the Bible with my Child has been created to equip parents for this monumental task. This book divides the Bible across four semesters (172 days), although the author has chosen to omit various books because of parallel passages. Reading changes have also been made to provide a more chronological view of the Bible. Each lesson is designed to take approximately 30 minutes. Prayer is recommended at the beginning of each lesson, and the daily lessons consist of Bible reading and discussion, a writing time and a memorization time. Tests have been developed to replace memorization every 7 days or so. The purpose of testing is two-fold: first to formalize and aid reviews, and secondly to assess the teaching. The author does stress that testing is optional and can simply be used as an additional review tool if individual families would like to maintain a devotional approach to the lessons. The writing component could be done orally with a younger child, or with the parent or an older child taking the responsibility for writing. The writing aspect primarily involves summarizing each reading into 5 areas: Discoveries about God, Discoveries about Man, God's Commands, Lists and Words/Phrases. Also included are crosswords, seek-a-words and maps. Designed to be completed as a family, there is no answer key.
A summary of each year is as follows: Year One begins with Genesis 1 and concludes with Ruth 4. Year 2 begins with 1 Samuel and ends in Nehemiah 13. Year 3 begins with Esther 1 and concludes with Malachi 4. Year 4 begins in Luke and concludes with Revelation 22.
The ESV (English Standard Version) is the Bible used for the lessons, though other translations will work. Pages are reproducible for non-commercial use. Sc, 362 pgs. ~ Deanne
