My daughter (6 at the time) used the Sing Spell Read & Write Level 2: Grand Tour during her 1st grade year It was *extremely* easy to use and contained everything that the California State standards wanted for second grade I don't believe that there was a teacher's manual that came with the set but I didn't see a need for one either It was very easy as I could pick up the books each day and chose the page(s) I wanted her to do Since she could read quite well she could do them independently with very little guidance My daughter is a pretty 'down & dirty' type of learner: the more straight-forward the material the better She enjoyed the colorful pages and found the amount of work appropriate- it wasn't daunting The program has plenty of structure in teaching grammar basics writing and of course pluralization capitalization and punctuation I think that this program would be really good for all but the kinesthetic-tactile learner I don't recall that it had any games or songs to go with this level like it did in the K/1 combination After this program is completed more writing vocabulary and maybe a formal study of grammar should be started SSR&W 2 is a good way to ease into deep study without overwhelming either the parent or the child If you're a religious (Christian) homeschooler and you're looking for a traditional program to ease into after this I'd highly recommend looking at ABeka or using materials oriented with a Classical schooling philosophy Most of those materials will allow deeper more formalized study and development of skills that SSR&W 2 has started I believe that the cost of this program is extremely reasonable

I love this program! It's organized and this particular level is the most fun one! It reviews the previous year by going over all 36 rules again but by expanding with suffixes etc double letters in patterns Each lesson begins with a spelling / vocab listEach lesson is 2 pages of activities such as fill in blank crosswords games codes find a words and more The second page is always grammar introductions and practice Every other lesson contains a simple creative writing section There are dictionary and proofreading sections every few lessons You should give spelling tests after each list Easy to use- no need to have teachers manual for this levelpredictable patterns but fun activities that change Good for most learners- good color to keep interestyou are told to use the cd from level 1 but it seems there used to be a tape for level 2not sure but not needed This is my 2nd time using it (2nd child) and I have never found anything better or more complete than SSRW for the best foundation in reading phonics and grammar Rock solid foundationExceptional results exceptional readers! Proof is in the pudding

Already use SSRW curriculum and it has been an easy program to teach, and my child has learned wonderfully from it.

Started SSRW for my first child in kindergarten and we love it! Now she is in 2nd grade and this is the last book I can find available even though it's supposed to go until the 3rd grade.

It continues the program we are using for 2nd grade

Is this everything you'd need for Level 2? I can't tell if readers are included. The Pearson website seems to indicate that there are 17 readers for this level.
A shopper on Feb 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The readers are not included! Wish I had known that before. From what I understand readers take you on a journey through a number of the States--which is important to note in case you are a Canadian like me as they would not be as applicable anyway.
Do you think that the Teacher's Manual is necessary for the Grand Tour 1 & 2 programs? I have used the K/1 program kit which included the teacher's manual but really didn't need it.
A shopper on Apr 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes , the manual gives you specific directions for the programs and answer key and directions for all accessment tests .
