Description

During play, successful civilizations build on a tapestry of interwoven capabilities and accomplishments. This game joins four basic pillars of progress in science, technology, exploration and military power in a multi-strategy, resource planning, tableau building and management experience to give players a rich, competitive and satisfying game play. Finding the right balance of progress between these areas and synchronicity between the resources, rewards and cards to play builds the best point production engine over the course of the game. This game taps into a unique advanced planning and management skillset challenge that is both satisfying and engaging and because there are various avenues to gain points, it earns the ability for repeated play.

In Tapestry, turns consist of either collecting income in which players gain resources to begin a new era or advancing their player token on one of the four progress tracks by paying the required cost and collecting benefits and optional bonuses. As players advance on each track, rewards grow, and the resources required increase. Once a player exhausts the resources they wish to use during the era, another income phase begins.

The four different advancement tracks offer the following:

  • Exploration: Draw and place hex tiles on the mainboard map. Gain points for terrain placement and various rewards on the tiles themselves. Gain income buildings.
  • Science: Acquire buildings; gain Tapestry Cards, roll a die to advance on the matching track symbol.
  • Technology: Acquire and upgrade technology cards to gain points, buildings, resources and Tapestry Cards.
  • Military: Take control of tile areas you place during exploration, roll dice for rewards, or add buildings to your capital city board.

The buildings awarded on each track are unique to each of them. Removing them from their initial spaces on the player income board uncovers additional point and resource opportunities, which players collect during an income phase. They next decide where to best place these buildings on their capital city map to fill in as many grids, rows and columns, as possible gaining immediate benefits and rewards during the next income phase.

Once each player completes their fifth and final income phase the game ends and the person with the most points wins the game! There is a solo mode provided with this game for 1-5 players with a time range of 90-120 minutes depending on player count and experience with the game. In Tapestry, there are many opportunities for competition and challenge to see how to improve your score from game to game. The quality of components and artwork is top-notch and my personal discovery of this game has been immersive, exciting and challenging. I cannot wait to share this experience with family and friends. ~ Marsha
